Tim was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan he started djing during high school, his passion for music led him to start Soultraxx records where he created a slogan "where music evolves from the soul of the city" with only two release on Soultraxx Tim noticed that establishing himself in the scene was more difficult than he expected, and he figured that
others may be having the same issue. With that in mind Planet Detroit was created as a means for new artist and old artist to re-invent themselves.

HAKIM MURPHY
House: A worldwide movement of diverse people expressing their happiness and soul. The genre encompasses disco, the 303’s, 909’s, 202’s, 808’s, Sh-101’s, 505’s, live instruments and dedicated partygoers.
The beginning: Hakim started his DJ career when he realized that he had an ear for beat matching. Soon after he started to get gigs that paid some decent money.
His flavor: Hakim’s musical influences stem from disco, jack and house music. The beats pump straight from his heart. Some specific influences are Roy Ayers, DJ Deeon, Jammin’ Gerald, Paul Johnson, Derrick Carter, Cajual Records, Relief Records, Cajmere, Masters at Work, Strictly Rhythm records, Robert Armani and Dance Mania Records. Hakim says he picked up his mixing influences from all the DJs he met when he first started mixing in 1996. His favorite places to spin records are places he can beat his tunes as loud as he wants and the entire dance floor moves. He says his favorite record that never fails to move the floor is “Downtime” by Salt City Orchestra.
It's a spiritual thing: He says he is happiest when he’s playing records because it’s like a state of meditation when he brings mixes together. The rhythms bring his thought process to another level. To keep his music fresh he changes up his musical output by rotating his expertise in playing records, playing the piano and making tracks.
The goal: Hakim aspires to become a world-renowned DJ and music producer. Sometime in the near future he plans to incorporate his piano playing into his live DJ sets. He would like to work with Miles Maeda and DJ Heather to incorporate their record spinning. He also would like to produce tracks with Derrick Carter, Paul Johnson and Glenn Underground.
What's in a name? Hakim goes by his real name because he says he likes the way Hakim Murphy sounds when it rolls off the tongue. He says it is a different name, plus he currently doesn’t have an alter ego, so it’s most appropriate.
